Hello & Welcome!
First things first, thank you for checking out Names for Janes! I'm Emily and I subconsciously allowed my interest in true crime, cold cases and all-things mystery develop into a big, type-A passion project (complete with post-it notes, divided binders, spreadsheets and my husband lovingly calling me "Nancy Drew"). This is something that really tugged on my heart, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to help. I've found part of myself in searching for others.
The searches are often heartbreaking and there are numerous hurdles or dead ends, but they can result in long-overdue closure for loved ones. That possibility makes every bit of the work entirely worthwhile. Every unidentified person has a name and a unique story. They are the nameless faces. Those who are remembered as case numbers or details. These unidentified women, Jane Does, are daughters, sisters, mothers, wives, friends.
This site is a way for me to keep track of the unidentified persons cases that I'm currently looking at or have looked at, post updates, and share any new-to-me cases. Come on back and visit because there will likely be something new added next time!

Put Your Money Where Your Hope Is
If you want to help but don't have the time or ability to search, please consider donating to one of the resources that many of us use in our searches, the organizations that work tirelessly to help identify these Janes and Johns, and those that continue to search for the missing.
DNA Doe Project is a "non-profit humanitarian initiative" that is doing some amazing work. You can choose to donate to a specific Doe, or donate to the general fund. The Charley Project is a favorite of mine, with over 14,000 missing persons profiles. I'm always impressed by the work that Meaghan (founder) has done and by her dedication to the missing. The Black & Missing Foundation is an amazing organization that "provides an equal opportunity for all missing", as well as advocating for and featuring missing persons of color who's cases often do not get the attention that they deserve. The NCMEC and ICMEC are the national and international organizations that focus on missing and exploited children. They do so much to not only help find missing children, but to help keep our children safe. |
